The jigging separation process is carried out in the jig chamber. The middle layer of jigging chamber has a sieve plate, ore is given to the sieve plate, forming a dense material layer, which is called the bed layer, water flow through the sieve plate and the bed layer. During the rising of water flow, the bed layer is lifted and loosened, light minerals rise faster with the water flow, while heavy minerals rise slower; while when the water flow downwards, light minerals fall slower, and heavy minerals downward faster. In this way heavy minerals tend to be at the bottom and light minerals at the top.
As the water flow continues downwards, the bed layer looseness decreases and the movement of coarse particles is hindered. As the bed layer becomes more and more close, and only fine ore particles can move down through the gap, called "drill gap movement". The downflow stops, the stratification stops, this is a cycle. Then the water flow starts to rise again, starting the second cycle. This process goes around and around, the high-density ore particles are finally concentrated in the bottom layer, and the low-density ore particles are located in the upper layer, completing the process of stratification according to the density.
